Site reputation abuse

Publishing third-party content on an established site mainly to exploit that site's ranking signals — sometimes called parasite SEO.

Google added site reputation abuse to its spam policies in 2024. It covers content such as coupon, casino or payday-loan pages hosted on a news or university site with little oversight from the host, placed there to borrow the host's standing in search.

Enforcement has been by manual action and by algorithm, and the approach has differed by region. See the Google updates and policy news linked below for the current state.
