What we ask you for
Nothing. There are no accounts, no sign-up, no newsletter, no comment system and no contact form on this site. We do not ask for your name, email address or any other personal detail, and there is nowhere to give us one.
Cookies
We set no cookies. Not for analytics, not for preferences, not for advertising. That is why you are not being shown a cookie banner — there is nothing to consent to.
One exception is outside our control: if you click the sponsored banner in the footer, the advertising network will set its own cookies on its own domain. That is described under third parties below, and in more detail on our affiliate disclosure.
What is stored in your browser
The site saves a few interface preferences using your browser's
localStorage. This data stays on the device you are
reading on. It is never transmitted to us, never sent anywhere
else, and we cannot read it.

You can erase all of it at any time by clearing site data for this domain in your browser settings. Nothing on the site breaks if you do; the preferences simply return to their defaults.
Server logs
This site runs on standard shared web hosting, which keeps access logs in the ordinary way. Those logs typically record your IP address, browser user-agent, the page requested, the referring page and a timestamp. They are generated by the web server, not by us, and are retained according to our hosting provider's policy.
One thing worth knowing: if you use the search box, your search term travels in the page URL and will therefore appear in those server logs. Do not type anything into it that you would not want written to a log file.
Analytics
We do not currently run any analytics or tracking software — no Google Analytics, no tag manager, no heatmaps, no pixels of our own. The site's Content Security Policy blocks third-party scripts outright, so this is enforced rather than merely promised. If that ever changes, this page will be updated before the change goes live.
Third parties that can see your visit
We do not hand your data to anyone. However, a page that loads images from another company's server necessarily reveals your IP address and user-agent to that company, in the same way visiting any website does. On this site that applies to:
- Article thumbnails. Where a publisher's feed includes an image, that image is loaded from the publisher's own servers or CDN. Their privacy policy governs it, not ours.

The sponsored banner. The footer banner is
served by Awin, an affiliate network, from
awin1.com. Displaying it lets Awin record an impression. Clicking it takes you to Awin, which will set tracking cookies before forwarding you to the advertiser.
If you would rather not load either, a content blocker or a browser set to block third-party images will stop them. The site remains fully usable without them.
Links to other sites
Nearly every headline here links to the publication that wrote it. Once you follow one of those links you are on someone else's site under someone else's privacy policy. We have no control over, and take no responsibility for, what they collect.
Children
This is a trade publication about search marketing. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone — of any age.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is generally nothing for us to export, correct or delete. If you believe we hold something about you and want it removed, contact us at the address below and we will look into it. For the server logs described above, requests may need to go to our hosting provider.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes will be described here rather than slipped in silently.
