The disclosure
Seowolf's SEO-Serps Info participates in affiliate programmes. When you click certain links on this site and subsequently make a purchase, we may receive a commission from the merchant. You never pay more because of it — the commission comes out of the merchant's margin, not your price.
Where the affiliate links actually are
One place, and it is deliberately easy to spot: the banner in the footer, under a heading that reads Sponsored. It is served through Awin, an affiliate network, and currently promotes web hosting.
That is the extent of it. To be explicit about what is not commercial:
- No headline on this site is paid placement.
- No source is included because someone paid for it.
- No link inside a news card is an affiliate link — every one of them goes directly to the publisher that wrote the story.
- There are no sponsored posts, paid reviews or "partner content" articles.
Why advertising cannot affect the news here
Most sites make this promise as a matter of policy. On this one it is a matter of architecture, which is a stronger guarantee.
Headlines are collected automatically from publishers' public RSS feeds by software. Which stories appear, how they are ordered, which becomes the lead and how each is rated for impact are all decided by code operating on the feed data and the publication date. There is no editorial step in which anyone chooses to feature a story, and therefore no step at which a commercial relationship could enter. The advertiser cannot buy a placement in the stream because no such placement exists to sell.
The full list of sources, and the reasoning behind each one, is published openly on the sources page. If a source is ever added for commercial reasons, it will be labelled as such there.
What happens when you click
Clicking the sponsored banner sends you to Awin, which records the click, sets tracking cookies on its own domain and forwards you to the advertiser. Simply loading the page also lets Awin record that the banner was displayed, because the image itself is served from their servers. This is covered in our privacy policy.
If you would rather not participate: don't click it. A content blocker will stop the banner loading at all, and nothing on the site depends on it.
Why we run it
Hosting, domains and the time to maintain this cost money. Affiliate commission is what keeps the site free to read, free of trackers and free of the intrusive advertising that would otherwise be the alternative. One clearly-labelled banner seemed the least objectionable way to do that.
